A Strategic Blessing: Sam and Harriet Ngugi's Story

Before coming to All Nations, Sam and Harriet were serving with Mission Campaign Network (MCN), a mission organisation based in Kenya. They completed their studies at All Nations in 2020, while Sam worked as a mobiliser and mission mentor with Pioneers UK, focusing on the Afro-Diaspora Christians in the UK for cross-cultural missions among the many nations considered least reached.

'Now we focus on mobilising and envisioning local churches, college students and market-place Christians in mission with a particular focus on the least reached people nations and communities,' says Harriet. 'We want to see God’s people participate in God’s mission to the nations and recognise our times as a Kairos moment for the church in Africa to participate more significantly in global missions.'

Growing missional communities and churches in Africa

'While the potential to send missionaries from and by the African church is growing by the day, there’s still a major gap in general awareness of biblical mission, contextually relevant training, and the infrastructure needed to send well and support effectively,' says Sam.

Studying at All Nations was a strategic blessing for this couple. 'We joined a like-minded community of more than 30 nationalities from around the world and enjoyed one of the largest missions libraries in Europe, all of which enriched our academic experience,' continues Sam.

Harriet studied a Masters in Contextual Theology and Sam a Masters in Missiology. Their dissertations were directly related to their ministry back in Kenya and will add great value to the training programs at Mission Campaign Network.
Theology and mission in context

The need to grow missional communities and churches and to develop discipleship that is contextually and theologically relevant to Africa is well acknowledged. 'Our studies helped us to reflect on theological, cultural and missiological issues in our context,' says Harriet.

'We’re looking forward to using the knowledge and experiences we have gained to further develop the missional-discipleship programs and resources run by Mission Campaign Network. We hope these will help to strengthen the growth of missional communities in Kenya.'
