Strategy? What do we need a strategy for, we have the Holy Spirit?

Is it unspiritual to talk about strategy in mission? Surely, the Holy Spirit is the one who guides us in our participation in God’s mission. To strategize is human planning that does not take into account God’s guidance.

Are these statements true? If they are, All Nations should not be running our Advanced Short Course on Mission Strategy! We obviously do think planning and strategizing in mission is important because we run this course.

We do believe that God has an aim in the world and the Church’s role is to take part in God’s mission. This requires us to think about that role: basically to form a strategy in regard to how we will fulfil that role.

So what is God’s purposes for this world? Is it to fill heaven with as many souls as possible, or is it something more down to earth. Perhaps Jesus gives us a clue in the Lord’s Prayer, “Hallowed be you name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” So, God’s purpose is for his name to be “hallowed” and that God’s kingdom should come on earth, and that means that His will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

So if that’s God’s purpose for creation, what is our role and how do will fulfil that role? That is what we will be looking at in the Advanced Short Course Module. It’s not too late to sign up: Mission Stategy 24th - 28th March.
