Why choose the Masters ?

If you are already serving in mission and would benefit from further research and study in contemporary mission issues then the Masters is for you

What is the Masters ?

The allnations Masters programme in Contemporary Mission Studies was the first to be taught in the UK and has attracted Christian leaders from around the world. It is aimed at those who would like to gain a deeper understanding of the range of issues within the discipline of mission studies: its Biblical, theological, historical, cultural and religious dimensions. You will gain a wide grasp of current thinking, trends and developments in global Christianity and will sharpen your missiological understanding of the Bible. The programme is especially suitable for those who have some years of Christian ministry experience in contextual theology, leadership or development work.

We offer five exit awards:

• MA in Contemporary Mission Studies

Studying this MA option you explore the mission of the Christian Church, its theological rationale, historical developments, methodologies and engagement with contemporary issues and trends. To this end it encompasses a range of biblical, theological, historical, intercultural and religious studies. The MA in Contemporary Mission Studies is a continuation of the present programme, allowing continuation for those part-time students already in the programme, and offering a choice of modules from the other pathways in the new set of programmes.

• MA in Development with Mission

Studying this MA option you explore how contemporary integral mission integrates with current development theory, policy and management. This inter-disciplinary study will draw on concepts from political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, development theory and practice, international aid, alongside the theology of contemporary mission. The aim is to create a reflective, analytical and practical management response to the causes and responses to poverty.

• MA in Leadership with Mission

Studying this MA option you will develop a practical management response to the contemporary issues in mission leadership which can be applied in relevant organisational situations. The MA will review the major leadership theories and embark on an exploration of a biblical understanding of leadership. The MA will provide a demanding review of leadership issues within a Christian framework and will focus on strategic planning and organisational change. The MA also examines various key aspects of leadership within a cross-cultural context and enables the student to learn through reflection on practice and experience in cross-cultural leadership situations.

• MTh in Contextual Theology with Mission

Studying the MTh option aims to help you recognise that the growth of the world church and the process of 'de-westernisation' of Christianity has made the study of theologies emerging from the 'global south' essential for all church and mission leaders. It is recognised that theology produced in Europe and North America is as much a contextually generated theology as much as African, Asian or Latin American theologies. The MTh will explore the historical, social and theological development of contextual theologies and enable critical engagement with the key ideas, debates and application issues. It is particularly suited to those working in non-western contexts of church-planting, theological education and Bible teaching.

• MTh in Messianic Jewish Theology and Intercultural Studies

Studying this MTh option will provide a rationale for Messianic Judaism, a contemporary movement that integrates faith in Jesus as Messiah with Jewish belief and practice. Beyond the historical, anthropological and social psychological approaches of previous studies, this course offers a specifically theological study for the reflective practitioner of Messianic Judaism. Messianic Jewish Theology examines five topics of theological concern: God, Messiah, Torah in theory, Torah in practice, and eschatology. Messianic Jewish Practice gives biblical, cultural and practical understanding of Messianic Jewish lifestyle, liturgy, calendar and life events for those wishing to lead Messianic Jewish Congregations.
